About Ms. McDonald

Diane K. McDonald is a North Carolina Board Certified Family Law Specialist licensed to practice law in North Carolina.  The distinguished accreditation of Board Certified Family Law Specialist is the highest accreditation for any attorney practicing Family Law in the State of North Carolina. It signifies that the recipient has completed extensive specialized training in North Carolina Family Law. Further, a Family Law Specialist is required to earn continued education credits to maintain accreditation.

Diane has practiced law in Western North Carolina since 1979 and has been a Family Law Specialist since 1996.  She has extensive experience and training in negotiation, litigation, and mediation of divorce matters. Ms. McDonald is a member of the North Carolina State Bar Association, the Family Law Section of the North Carolina State Bar Association and the Buncombe County Bar Association.  She has represented clients in both District and Superior Court and at the North Carolina Court of Appeals in Raleigh.

Attorney Diane McDonald is also an experienced Court Appointed Parenting Coordinator, Certified North Carolina Family Financial Mediator and an Association for Conflict Resolution Advanced Practitioner.

Diane earned her B.A. degree from the University of Nebraska and her J.D. degree from the University of Nebraska Law School. While at Nebraska, Diane won the Gretchen Bechtol Lee Scholarship, and the Thomas Stinson Allen Senior Appellate Competition.  She was a member of the National Moot Court Team and the Executive Board of the Nebraska Law Review. Diane has authored several publications and is a lecturer at Family Law Section meetings of the North Carolina Bar Association.

Diane McDonald has been a resident of Asheville, North Carolina since 1979 and has three children.
